Accurate measurements are essential before ordering artificial grass or outdoor carpet. Measure the widest and longest points of your area and add 150-200mm extra to each measurement to allow for trimming and fitting.
Artificial grass can be supplied in 2 metre, 4 metre and 5 metre roll widths and in pieces up to 36 metres long, whilst outdoor carpet can be supplied in 2 or 4 metre widths. Areas which are larger than this, will need a join. (See below). Please note, we cannot supply in any other width sizes, but can supply any length.

For irregular areas, measure the maximum width and length rather than trying to follow the shape of the boundary.
EG. If your area measures 7.4m x 4.8m at its widest points, ordering a single piece of 7.6m x 5m will allow you to cover the area without joins. This will allow for that important 150-200mm extra for fitting and trimming.
For example, in an area this large, we would recommend an allowance of 200mm to allow for undulating ground, to ensure you have sufficient grass to fully cover the area.
Remember, artificial grass is very easy to cut to shape, to create interest in your garden, and to follow curved boundaries.
If your space exceeds 5 metres, you will need to join two or more pieces. (NB. not all of our grasses are available in 5 metre roll widths, some only go up to 4 metres wide, so be sure to check!).
If joining two pieces, they will need to be ordered at the same time to ensure they are cut from the same roll and both pieces will need to be joined along the same edge - i.e. the width, or the length to ensure the pile direction is the same. (Never join the width, to the length).

Most artificial grass has a pile direction, similar to real grass and it’s the change in pile direction, i.e. the direction in which the blades tend to lean, which results in a stripy lawn when you mow natural grass with a cylinder mower. The pile direction runs along the length of the roll, which usually means you would have the pile facing towards your house for the best appearance. It’s also the reason, two pieces must be joined along the same axis, as detailed above. you can read more about pile direction here.
